THE UNHEARD THIRD
A riot is at bottom the language of the Unheard. Dr. King

Who are the Unheard Third?

THE UNHEARD THIRD IS A SILENT GROUP OF THIRD CLASS CITIZENS IN AMERICA, THE LAST GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO ARE LEGALLY DISCRIMINATED AGAINST EVERY DAY.

Are you a member of the Unheard Third?

YOU ARE IF YOU HAVE A CRIMINAL RECORD OR IF YOUR PARENT, SPOUSE, OR CHILD HAS A RECORD.

Are you tired of being a silent, Third Class citizen?  Are you ready to improve your life and the lives of the people who love you and depend on you?  Do you believe that words are wasted on deaf ears?  Do you believe that ACTION is necessary?

Let us join together to fight for our CIVIL RIGHTS!

Dear Reader:

If you are one of the millions of people who have a felony, misdemeanor, or simply an arrest record, you have faced discrimination in a multitude of ways.  You can’t get a job or an apartment.  You probably have trouble getting financial aid for school.  If you’re a felon, when you get pulled over for a simple traffic stop it may turn into a major ordeal.  It doesn’t matter if your offense was ages ago, or if you were never a hardened, career criminal.  It doesn’t matter if you hate the very idea of committing another crime.  Society as a whole will not let you move on.  What you are learning, or have already learned, is that the sentence the judge gave you was minuscule compared to the life sentence society has given you.

I know because I am one of you.  I was convicted of robbery when I was 17 and served 10 years in Texas prison.  I have been free for 4 years.  By my calculation, I haven’t committed a crime in 14 years.  By society’s, I am a dangerous person who will most likely re-offend any minute.  Society wants me to be a loser.  But I refuse.  I WILL move on and move up.

Within this site you will find information about our struggle.  You will find a plan of action to solve our problems.  You will find a community of people just like you who want to stand alongside you and face this struggle with courage, dignity, and determination.

The effectiveness of this site depends on you.  It’s purpose is to take a community and turn it into an army.  You must look inside yourself and decide if you have what it takes to make a change in your life, the lives of your family, and your community.  It’s on you to  make a resolution to get involved.  It’s on you to take action.  No man or woman is an island.  We need the help of others, but we also need to help others.  We are all in this together.  We must each do our part.  If everyone believes they can sit back and let other people handle their problems, logic tells us that no problems will be solved.  I cannot change society alone.  So again, it all depends on you, and you, and you, and you.

This is a monumental battle.  But we can win.  The State of Texas has given us the tool we need to succeed:  They gave us the right to vote!  Our votes, multiplied by those of our families, friends, and members of our communities–the multitude of people who want to see us succeed–can smash  the barriers that hold us back.  Just as others have joined together to fight for their Civil Rights, so must we!

It’s time to get involved.  I encourage you to use this site to educate yourself, to join the forum and network with others like you, and to think about what you can do to rally support for our cause.

Sincerely,

  J.T.
Now the law has chosen another group of people to ostracize.  This time the basis is not race, color, creed, nationality, or any other categorization now protected by law.  Rather the basis is past criminal history.  This includes people with felonies, minor offenses, even arrests that never resulted in convictions.  These are the last citizens in the USA who are legally discriminated against.  They are the new Third Class.

There is no Dr. King for this group.  There is no Civil Rights Movement for them.  There are only a few advocates fighting on their behalf, and they are like David against a Goliath of politicians, law enforcement, businesses, and victim’s rights groups aligned against them. This Third Class has no organization and no voice.  They are Unheard.

Let us be Unheard no longer!
America has a long tradition of separation, discrimination, and repression.  Not long ago, an entire race of people was legally discriminated against.  Before the Civil Rights Act of 1964, African Americans were treated as Third Class citizens in the United States.  Now, the law has changed, but African Americans still face discrimination in many ways.  Today, African Americans, and many other groups, are treated as Second Class citizens:  Not legally discriminated against, but not treated equally in many cases either.
